"DEAD FURY Q & A" 2/2007

Question: Is old man Fred from "City of Rott", the star again? Answer: He plays a supporting role, but isn't the lead role. Max and the villains play the biggest parts. This time, Fred Figiero plays the role of Pop, Max's father, not a senile walker wielding lunatic like in COR.

Q: Are these zombies? A: They look like zombies, but they're actually possessed, like what happens to Regan from "The Exorcist", or Ash in "Evil Dead 2", both inspirations for the cartoon. They don't eat meat unfortunately, but they enjoy dissecting it as the trailer shows. They speak often as well, in a possessed voice and have glowing eyes. They use weapons, and can teleport into spirit form at will. They also have powers of Telekinesis, like the villain from "Tourist Trap", or the Emperor from "Star Wars". Their motivation is revenge, but for a reason which will be revealed in the story...

Q: Is this just an animated "Evil Dead" and "The Hills Have Eyes"? A: The story pays tribute/homage/inspiration to those and other great horror classics, but takes an original path as well. Most of it is presented in a gory, light-hearted way (the parody side of it). Can it match the genius of Evil Dead, not close in my opinion, as it's a cartoon with a different story approach in the end.

Q: Is this a sequel to "City of Rott"? A: No. The story is much different and more developed in Dead Fury. Special attention was placed on telling a much stronger storyline this time, along with improvements in other areas, such as voice acting, improved gore and character development.

Q: Does the story stay intact throughout? A: Yes. The narrative has a definite beginning, middle and ending without trailing off to unrelated plots. In COR, the final 20 minutes were added after the film was complete for the sake of more gore, which explains some of the disjointed storyline, though Fred was still involved in some way.

Q: Is there just as much gore as in COR? A: I think so. The gore effects have been improved, though it is balanced much more with the story this time.

Q: Are the 82 minutes justified, or just filler for the gore? A: The story plays a MAJOR part this time, with the gore being very important as well.

Q: Another one-man production? A: Yes. The challenge, finances, rights and Creative Control were the key reasons.

Q: How long did this take to make? A: One year with interruptions.

Q: Should fans expect new things this time? A: Yes. Especially with the storyline, which is much more developed compared to "City of Rott", which was mostly about a crazy old man searching for shoes in a city of zombies.

Q: Are the sound FX improved? A: Yes. New, more realistic sound effects for the splatter compared to COR. The music is toned down a bit this time, for the sake of character development and dialog.

Q: Is there a point to the story, beyond just more gore? A: Yes. The story is very important, while still piling on the animated gore like you've never seen before.
